Few weeks ago, the plan to go to Penang came true. It was always a joyous outing to head to another place for a simple break, at least. However, things came in half way and the plan to head to Penang got interrupted. Instead of heading to Penang at 6pm, the plan all changed and we eventually reached at 4am in the next day. Aiks!
First thing we did once we reached Penang was to crawl to our respective beds and call it a night. Once the sunlight broke through the layers of the curtains, our expedition in Penang began.
Literally, we had 48 hours to spend in Penang and what we did was merely food hunting! And here's the list of how we spent our days wisely in Penang.
In this 48 hours, we had:
1. Mee goreng
Brought by our local friend and when I meant local friend, it means that friend who breathes Penang air and lives in Penang. When we stepped in, the friendly waiter got our order and fired up their signature mee goreng. Comes with an abundance of greenies, mashed potatoes and cuttlefish, the mee goreng is truly unique and special as compared to others.
When served, we just need to squeeze some lime, mix it and they are ready to savour. Noodles are moist and they are heavenly in taste. With decent wok hei, it simply whets one's appetite; one plate is certainly not enough.

2. Wan Tan Mee
We were quite hesitated when our friend was crediting how good the Penang Wan Tan Mee so we decided to give it a try. When the waiter brought the dishes to our table, we were quite amazed and quickly, allowed our phone to have the first "bite". It is somewhat like a combination of our Wan Tan Hor and Wan Tan Mee. The noodles are springy and the gravy is thick in taste. Fried wan tan is awesome with crispy skin and a bowl of wan tan soup simply completes this meal. In fact, the noodles are made on their own instead of using a noodle machine. So, I strongly reckon this place!

3. Coconut shake
Penang is hot as always. Therefore, having a good cup of coconut shake is a brilliant decision. Hence, we went to Joez Coconut Shake and ordered our favorite drink. Even, the body agreed with it. We had the coconut shake and coconut jelly mainly to clench our thirst.

4. Penang Asam Laksa
My tummy always have a space for Asam Laksa and that leads us to this restaurant. Instead of going to the Air Itam Asam Laksa, we went to a local place which serves a good bowl of Asam Laksa. At that point of our visiting time, there wasn't many people there so we could comfortably had our so-called meal.
In total, the asam laksa is worth every single cent. It is savoury with a balance of sweet, sour and spicy taste.

5. Penang Lor Bak
Penang is famous with this dish! Just order what you want or what you like. But bear in mind that it is not cheap; a plate of this can easily costs RM 20.00, thanks to the Chinese sausage as well as one of its specialty which is the braised pork that is rolled in beancurd skin and deep-fried.

6. Penang Char Kuey Teow
Going to Penang simply means that you cannot afford to miss out the Penang Char Kuey Teow. And having said that, I personally like the char kuey teow cooked by the Red Hat Auntie at Lorong Selamat. Though the price is slightly higher, a plate of char kuey teow of hers can truly heighten up your eating standard. The big, fresh prawns that accompany the plate of char kuey teow together with a generous amount of bean sprouts, succulent cockles and thinly sliced Chinese sausages plus the "wok hei" simply makes this dish delicious! Dae-bak.

7. Penang Duck Kway Chap
I was brought to discover the hidden gem of this in Penang. I got to know that one of the most famous restaurants in Penang was not the ordinary kway chap but duck kway chap located at Kimberly Street.
For benefit to some, kway chap consists of flat wide noodle rolls that served in some kind of meat based broth; the ones I had in Johor was served in pork broth but the ones that I had here was totally different.
The noodle rolls are hardly seen as they are covered in the dark tea colored broth and it comes with abundance of duck meat. The broth carries a wonderful and wondrous depth flavor of duck.

8. Nasi Kandar Beratur
We ended our Penang trip with a plate of nasi kandar beratur at 10pm. Though it just opened its door, the queue was crazy. Not knowing anything much, we just followed and queued along. It was really late at night hence, we got ourselves a plate of nasi kandar and it was shared among 5 of us. Honestly speaking, I don't find it worth the wait though many applaud for their good curries which boast a complete mix of hand-ground spices. I still think that the Nasi Kandar at Nilai, Negeri Sembilan tastes way better than this one.

And.....to call it off a day, it is a must to have a we-fie!! :)
Truly, a simple trip does not need much itinerary. A simple trip can turn out to be a most memorable one by having a group of friends whom we can share laughter together at all times. Despite the lack of sleep, having to walk miles away to hunt good food or even, driving all the way to Penang, it is indeed good to just get together.
I hardly joined them when I was in INTI but thanks much for including me always in your trip.
