Chapter 151 – Let’s Row in Row Six, Setia City Mall

Wake Me Up When September Ends
Hey ya, not for this year! I have fallen in love with September, knowing that there are so many great plans ahead and long holidays await us if you take 3 days off and have 10 days off in total. Thanks, Malaysia! With the long holidays coming up soon in like less than 2 days where I may be rowed to other states or probably another country, let’s first row to Row Six, Setia City Mall.
My Ohana

Though the mall was pretty packed and crowded, the eatery place that we opted for, Row Six, could comfortably accommodate 8 of us (+1 baby). My brothers were not aware of this place hence, I put on my tour guide cap and began explaining on the wide array of Asian cuisine that they offer. From the signature Pad Thai dish that traveled its way from Thailand to Malaysia Nasi Ketuk!
Bubur Cacar Gula Melaka – RM 5.55
Strong aroma and thick in texture! It just brought us to the memory lane where we had it once during our family reunion.
Milo Volcano – RM 6.95
Someone must have been missing Milo so much that he ordered Milo Dinosaur – that’s my little brother. Nothing fancy to shout about aside that they are generous with the Milo powder.
That again, it’s an expensive Milo drink.
Nasi Ketuk with Chicken Tandoori – RM 19.95
Don’t be fool by the small portion of rice. It looked small but it was crazily packed; just like lemang rice. Chicken Tandoori was the champion in this dish. The color itself was enough to make you salivate for it; the minute you put the chicken in your mouth, you will realize that your tastebuds are enjoying every single taste of it while the aromatic smell of Tandoori lingered in your mouth.
Mango Selasih with Cream – RM 11.95
Very pretty indeed! A nice drink to have especially after you have your mains.
Come with sweet cubes of mangoes, this is a perfect choice for Mango lovers.
Penang Assam Laksa – RM 16.95
When it was presented on to our table, I sighed, seeing the bland appearance. However, when I took a sip of the broth, I regretted for not ordering it. A spicy, sweet and sour noodle soup has simply no comparison. If I were to order this bowl of Assam Laksa, I would have slurp up all the noodles.
Tomyam Seafood Fried Rice – RM 14.95
Since it was raining quite heavily, I opted for Tomyam Seafood Fried Rice. The taste was ok as I had eaten a tastier Tomyam Fried Rice before at elsewhere.
Nasi Ketuk with Chicken Rendang – RM 21.95
Oh, this is one of the sinning plates! The rendang tasted so delicious that you can actually have it with a bowl of white rice. Also, look at the side dishes in Nasi Ketuk; it comes with keropok, fried egg, belacan kangkong which was very, very spicy and two sauces.
Massaman Curry Seafood – RM24.95
I didn’t get to try this but my brother was claiming that the curry did not taste like curry. The taste was simply special that words couldn’t describe it at all. So, I guess that it must be nice?
Ice Kacang Cendol – RM 7.55
Cendol was just so-so only; In fact, I don’t reckon one to order cendol here.  Such a small bowl and taste was pretty mild.

In total, Row Six is a comfortable dining place where you can spend hours of talking and catching up with your loved ones with minimal disruptions. A place for you to hang out and you will be spoilt by the food choices.

Chapter 120 - Saanen Dairy Goat Farm, Balik Pulau, Penang

Such a blissful weekend getaway!

Thanks to the long holiday, I was able to join a group of friends to Penang for local Penang dishes. We were there for about 5 days and we had a different view now towards Penang. Instead of just having the local dishes like Char Kuey Teow and Penang Asam Laksa, we spent 2 days and 1 night at Balik Pulau.

I would say that it is one of the hidden gems in Penang since not many people actually treat this place as a tourist attraction. I don't see hotels there and even, we could not get an AirBnb stay there.

One of the places that we visited was no other than Saanen Dairy Goat Farm. Located at the north of Balik Pulau, according to the map that we got from Nature Farm Resort,  Saanen Dairy Goat Farm is free! When I said it is free, it means no entrance fee.
Upon parking, you can just head to the rest area and collect a stack of grass where you can feed the goat. Note that it is free! #whateverthatisfreewemusthighlightit

I enjoyed feeding the goats but not until when I was surrounded by all of them. It was quite enjoying watching the goats but it lasted for a while only. Besides feeding the goats and playing with the cats, there wasn't much thing you can do there. Oh ya, we saw a kancil or kijang...whatever name that you call it.

After feeding, we sampled some of their own produce like goat pudding, goat ice cream and goat milk which comes in 3 flavors (original, strawberry and chocolates). I opted for the original to taste it.

Voila...It was not something that I usually had. It does not even taste like goat milk hence, we went and asked the owner's daughter on why is it so.

"Well, goat milk is depends on what the owner feed them. In Saanen Dairy Goat Farm, the goat are fed with their own vegetables and plants," said the daughter. In fact, they actually have a vegetables farm, located a stone away from Saanen Dairy Goat Farm where the plantation is catered just for the goat.

After that, Mr Ho, the owner brought a group of bikers to see what rubber trees are and we tailed along. We were also being educated on a children game which was played back then using rubber seed. It is called windmill at that era. And of course, I did play along with it and hooray...I can actually blend in with this nature retreat lifestyle instead of just staying in the city.
Overall, if you have time to spend which I believe you would if you stay at least 2 nights in Balik Pulau, I reckon you to pay a visit to Saanen Dairy Goat Farm. It may be quite a distance from the town itself to Saanen Dairy Goat Farm but if you love animals, then you would definitely enjoy it.

Address : 298 Mukim 1, Sungai Pinang, 11010 Balik Pulau, Pinang.
Operating hour: Daily (from 10am to 5pm)

Happy touring!

Chapter 106 - 7 must-try dishes in Penang (introduced by the local)

Few weeks ago, the plan to go to Penang came true. It was always a joyous outing to head to another place for a simple break, at least. However, things came in half way and the plan to head to Penang got interrupted. Instead of heading to Penang at 6pm, the plan all changed and we eventually reached at 4am in the next day. Aiks!

First thing we did once we reached Penang was to crawl to our respective beds and call it a night. Once the sunlight broke through the layers of the curtains, our expedition in Penang began.
Literally, we had 48 hours to spend in Penang and what we did was merely food hunting! And here's the list of how we spent our days wisely in Penang.

In this 48 hours, we had:

1. Mee goreng
Brought by our local friend and when I meant local friend, it means that friend who breathes Penang air and lives in Penang. When we stepped in, the friendly waiter got our order and fired up their signature mee goreng. Comes with an abundance of greenies, mashed potatoes and cuttlefish, the mee goreng is truly unique and special as compared to others.

When served, we just need to squeeze some lime, mix it and they are ready to savour. Noodles are moist and they are heavenly in taste. With decent wok hei, it simply whets one's appetite; one plate is certainly not enough.

Mee Goreng Bangkok Lane,
270 Jalan Burma, Lorong Bangkok, Penang.
Opens from 8am (closed on Mondays)

2. Wan Tan Mee
We were quite hesitated when our friend was crediting how good the Penang Wan Tan Mee so we decided to give it a try. When the waiter brought the dishes to our table, we were quite amazed and quickly, allowed our phone to have the first "bite". It is somewhat like a combination of our Wan Tan Hor and Wan Tan Mee. The noodles are springy and the gravy is thick in taste. Fried wan tan is awesome with crispy skin and a bowl of wan tan soup simply completes this meal. In fact, the noodles are made on their own instead of using a noodle machine. So, I strongly reckon this place!

Wan Tan Mee House Pulau Tikus,
Jalan Burma, Pulau Tikus, Penang (right opposite police station)
Opens from 7.30am.

3. Coconut shake
Penang is hot as always. Therefore, having a good cup of coconut shake is a brilliant decision. Hence, we went to Joez Coconut Shake and ordered our favorite drink. Even, the body agreed with it. We had the coconut shake and coconut jelly mainly to clench our thirst.

Joez Coconut Shake,
201, Jalan Dato Keramat, 10150 Georgetown, Penang.
Opens from 8am.

4. Penang Asam Laksa
My tummy always have a space for Asam Laksa and that leads us to this restaurant. Instead of going to the Air Itam Asam Laksa, we went to a local place which serves a good bowl of Asam Laksa. At that point of our visiting time, there wasn't many people there so we could comfortably had our so-called meal.

In total, the asam laksa is worth every single cent. It is savoury with a balance of sweet, sour and spicy taste.

Lok Pin Cafe,
72-B, Jalan Anson, Georgetown, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia.

5. Penang Lor Bak
Penang is famous with this dish! Just order what you want or what you like. But bear in mind that it is not cheap; a plate of this can easily costs RM 20.00, thanks to the Chinese sausage as well as one of its specialty which is the braised pork that is rolled in beancurd skin and deep-fried.

Penang Lor Bak,
Lorong Selamat, Pulau Pinang
(you can make your order when you dine in the Red-Hat Auntie Char Kuey Teow place; there's a person who will ask you - just sit down and relax)

6. Penang Char Kuey Teow
Going to Penang simply means that you cannot afford to miss out the Penang Char Kuey Teow. And having said that, I personally like the char kuey teow cooked by the Red Hat Auntie at Lorong Selamat. Though the price is slightly higher, a plate of char kuey teow of hers can truly heighten up your eating standard. The big, fresh prawns that accompany the plate of char kuey teow together with a generous amount of bean sprouts, succulent cockles and thinly sliced Chinese sausages plus the "wok hei" simply makes this dish delicious! Dae-bak.

Kafe Keng Huat
108, Lorong Selamat, 10400 George Town, Pulau Pinang.
Opens from 11am

7. Penang Duck Kway Chap
I was brought to discover the hidden gem of this in Penang. I got to know that one of the most famous restaurants in Penang was not the ordinary kway chap but duck kway chap located at Kimberly Street.

For benefit to some, kway chap consists of flat wide noodle rolls that served in some kind of meat based broth; the ones I had in Johor was served in pork broth but the ones that I had here was totally different.

The noodle rolls are hardly seen as they are covered in the dark tea colored broth and it comes with abundance of duck meat. The broth carries a wonderful and wondrous depth flavor of duck.

Restaurant Kimberly,
Lebuh Kimberly, 10100 George Town, Pulau Pinang.
Opens from 6.30pm (closed on Thursday).

8. Nasi Kandar Beratur

We ended our Penang trip with a plate of nasi kandar beratur at 10pm. Though it just opened its door, the queue was crazy. Not knowing anything much, we just followed and queued along. It was really late at night hence, we got ourselves a plate of nasi kandar and it was shared among 5 of us. Honestly speaking, I don't find it worth the wait though many applaud for their good curries which boast a complete mix of hand-ground spices. I still think that the Nasi Kandar at Nilai, Negeri Sembilan tastes way better than this one.

Nasi Kandar Beratur,
98, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Penang.
Opens from 10pm.

And.....to call it off a day, it is a must to have a we-fie!! :)
Truly, a simple trip does not need much itinerary. A simple trip can turn out to be a most memorable one by having a group of friends whom we can share laughter together at all times. Despite the lack of sleep, having to walk miles away to hunt good food or even, driving all the way to Penang, it is indeed good to just get together.

I hardly joined them when I was in INTI but thanks much for including me always in your trip.
Once again, cheers to the long-lasting friendship!

Chapter 55 – Angcle Peoh @ Bukit Tinggi Klang

Stepping out from the house always make me wonder where to go and what to eat. I am always in the dilemma especially weekend because things can get really bored if we are to eat the same food again and again.

Though I am now craving for Korean food, my appetite was well taken care of during the weekend where I had a reasonable Penang food. Despite the taste that is not really similar with what I usually get in Penang, at least, I do not need to drive all the way to Penang in order to satisfy my taste buds.
Located at Bukit Tinggi, Klang, the history of Angcle Peoh actually started since 1950 when Uncle Peoh’s mom was a good cook. In that era, she carried all the laksa ingredients, walked 4km from her house to Ayer Itam market and sold laksa at the side of the bridge. When Uncle Peoh was 7, he started to help his mum at the market and thereafter, they owned their first bicycle which made it easier to carry the rattan basket. At the age of 17, they owned a pedicab and 27 years of hard work later, Uncle Peoh owned a small lorry.

Cut the history short, today, everyone knows what Penang Ayer Itam Asam Laksa is. The brand name “Angcle Peoh” is used as “Ang” is Uncle Peoh’s surname.

When you hit the store, it is a must to order a bowl of Asam Laksa.
Asam Laksa
RM 6.90
I was not really fascinated with the Asam Laksa. As I am a person who craze for intense flavour, I feel that the Asam Laksa would taste better if the soup is more concentrated as well as more “Har Goh” is given. Right now, the soup is a bit diluted compared to the Asam Laksa in Penang.
Fried Tom Yam Mee
RM 9.90
Somehow, I prefer this – though there is nothing special with this noodle, the tom yam taste is something that I must applaud. Heavily enveloped the maggi noodle with Tom Yam taste, squids and bean sprouts, this dish is best to be eaten when it’s hot. It is a little spicy but it is my favourite thus far.
Fried Kuay Teow with Chicken Egg
RM 6.90
For a good plate of Char Kuey Teow, “wok hei” plays a very important role. In Angcle Peoh, the fried kuey teow is so-so only. Giving generous amount of cockles, bean sprouts, and prawns, I feel that the dish is lack of “wok hei” and it is rather oily. However, my friend who ordered a plate of Fried Kuey Teow with Duck Egg praised the dish – so, if you want to try, I would reckon to order Fried Kuey Teow with Duck Egg (RM 8.90) instead of Chicken Egg.
Curry Mee
RM 6.90
The presentation is really nice! It comes with a rendang chicken, tao pok and cockles. It smells good at first but the taste is rather blatant. It is not spicy despite the colour of the gravy looks red.

Overall, the food here is OK and price is reasonable. However, the taste of the food definitely cannot beat the original taste in Penang. I have no idea why. Once a while, if you crave for Penang food, you can have the short-term satisfaction at Angcle Peoh in Bukit Tinggi, Klang while, planning for a trip down to Penang during your free time.

Angcle Peoh is located at 42, Lorong Batu Nilam 21B, Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2, 41200 Klang, Selangor. It opens from 9am to 9pm on Mondays to Sundays.
