Chapter 98 - Restaurant Goh Lau, Klang

Many including Klang-rians might not know on the existence of this restaurant called Goh Lau Restaurant, Port Klang, Klang. Located opposite Pandamaran B school, the restaurant is somewhat hard to be spotted due to the nameless signage. So, what I suggest here is to park your car first and then, take a stroll locating this place. It is actually two shops away from a Bat Kut Teh restaurant.

When you step into this restaurant, you will spot the word "Goh Lau Restaurant" at its so-called hawker cart. My mum's friends are the ones who reckon us this place, stating how good the food is and leading us to try it on our own.

I have tried a few signature dishes as suggested but unfortunately, it was not up to my expectation. The dishes are pretty mild in taste and these could be suitable for people who prefer slightly bland in taste.

Nevertheless, these are some dishes which deserve to be credited such as: Fried Yoo Tiao stuffed with Minced Meat

Crispy at the outer but soft in the inner - the mince meat is fragrant in smell and taste wise, it is awesome. I don't mind having a plate of it when I watch Korean drama or Korean variety show. It is a good appetizer by the way as it is also not that oily.
Fried Butter Mantis Prawn
Presentation wise looks appetizing but taste wise, it does not make any difference as per what other restaurants are serving today. It tastes the same so nothing much to shoutout.
Fried Longevity Noodles
Smells good when it is served on to our table. However, the plate of noodle is lacking of the taste *blame my heavily-flavored tastebuds* So, what I did was to eat it with loads of chilies plus garlic to boost up the taste.
Fried Chi Hun Keng
Well, not many people know about this dish because so far, it is only available in Klang. Ask any KL people, they might have not come across this. Generous pork lard is used to dish this noodle up but what was lacking is that the noodles are soaked too long before it is being fired up. The noodles are broken in pieces.
Mee Mamak
Next up is Mee Mamak. Nowadays, many Chinese restaurants have their Mee Mamak version. Similar like the ones that I have in Tian Lee Seafood, Port Klang, the chef has tweaked the dish by adding some Chinese elements to it. It is not that spicy hence, it can be eaten by people of all ages. Worth to try, I would say.
Fried Rice
Nothing special but just a plate of fried rice that uses the mixed vegetables like carrot, peas and corn to dish up. Taste wise...hmmm...I just have two spoons of it.

Fried Rice Cake
Very rare we get this from Chinese restaurant because it is not easy to manage this dish. Sometimes, it is good to have different type of carbohydrates rather than always having noodles and rice. However, this dish would be better if they make the rice cake itself rather than buying them outside.

All in all, the bill comes up to RM 107.00 - pretty pricey actually especially when the ordered dishes are all noodles and rice instead of seafood.

Ambient : 5/10
Price : Slight expensive
Food : Non-halal
Service : 3/5
Verdict : Suggest to go once to at least try the Fried Yoo Tiao stuffed with Minced Meat and Mee Mamak. And then, you leave your stomach to try other dishes surrounding that area.

Chapter 95 - Zui Le Xuan Dim Sum @ Ipoh, Perak

When you say about Ipoh, some recommend Ipoh hor fun, Ipoh chicken rice, Ipoh white coffee and also, Ipoh dim sum. I tried Ipoh dim sum at Foh San Dim Sum place for several times and frankly, I did not like it. I don't understand why people still flock to that place even though I feel that dim sum at other places like Klang tastes way better than that.

This time, I tried to google for the best and recommended dim sum place in Ipoh. Quite a number of people recommended Zui Le Xuan Dim Sum so, I told myself to give it a try. We reached there about 11.30am, thanks to the heavy traffic jam which got me stuck for like 3.5 hours on the road. The place was not busy at all and I was a bit hesitated whether should I try the dim sum or not.

Nevertheless, we still proceed to try out some of their dim sums. I ordered a few of their signatures dishes - some were good but some were not.

Lui Sar Pao
It is good in fact but I find that the charcoal bread is a bit too dry on that day, causing it to be hard instead of soft. It could be better if they use a fresh bread to make this. Nonetheless, it is worth to try at your first visit there.
Stuffed Chee Cheong Fun
This caught my attention actually. Usually, we have either char siew chee cheong fun or prawn chee cheong fun. But in Zui Le Xuan, they offer this dish in a different manner. Personally, I like it even though the serving is really, really small. As for the skin, I am not sure whether it is related to the freshness of it or not. It tears before we can even take it up.
The better view of Stuffed Chee Cheong Fun
Fried Raddish Cake
Pardon the blur-ness here. This dish would be delicious if it is being served hot. Nevertheless, it is still edible in a way, thanks to the crunchy bean sprouts.
Fried Sesame Ball with Lotus
Aww..This is my favorite! Will always order this regardless which dim sum place I go to. Usually, you will only get lotus inside of this sesame ball but for this place, it comes with lotus plus peanut, giving the whole feeling of soft for the outside and crunchy in the inside.
 Steamed Fish Ball
I will have to give some credits to this; even my sister agreed with me that the fishballs taste good. It gives the springy and the bouncy feel when you chew it in your mouth.
Doink, doink and Doinkkk

Other dim sum that we ordered on that day are siew mai, pork roll, vege siew mai, har kau and etc - I didn't highlight them at all because they are just so-so only as compared to the other well-deserved dim sum place.

Our bill came up to RM 57.15 for a total of 14 kinds of dim sum plus a teapot for 5 pax.

Verdict: I would recommend you all to try at least their Lau Sar Pao, Steamed Fish Ball, Stuffed Chee Cheong Fun, Fried Raddish Cake and Fried Sesame Ball with Lotus for the first time. Other dishes, you may give it a try if you want to otherwise, you can just continue filling your stomach elsewhere then.
