Chapter 108 - A simple breakfast at Chong Kok Kopitiam, Klang

Chong Kok Kopitiam has been around in Klang for more than decades. Located at a prominent location where it is just 2 minutes away from/to Klang KTM station, Chong Kok Kopitiam welcomes people of all races and ages. It is an extremely popular breakfast spot in Klang.

In some days especially weekends and public holidays, you may notice a queue in front of this shop before the dawn breaks. People are thronging in to get their best seats while making order of what they want for breakfast.

I don’t usually go in the weekends because it is a great hassle to get a seat. Henceforth, I usually make my trip to Chong Kok Kopitiam before I start my work. Of course, it is not everyday but if I do need to go to Chong Kok Kopitiam, I would have to crawl out from my bed at 5.30am in order to make it to Chong Kok Kopitiam by 6.30am (thank God my house is pretty near with Chong Kok Kopitiam).

Recently, I had my breakfast at Chong Kok Kopitiam but together with my colleagues aka Klang-rians. Like how a typical breakfast should be, I got myself a cup of coffee, two half-boiled eggs and a plate of toast bread. Service was relatively fast so, I managed to gobble my meals within seconds. Not sure whether I was hungry at that time.
A typical breakfast that is closed to everyone's heart.
2 half-boiled eggs - RM 1.80
Check out how beautiful the half-boiled eggs are - delicious!
Toast bread - RM 2.10
Somehow, I felt that the meals served in Chong Kok Kopitiam really reminisce the olden days like how a coffee should taste like, how the half-boiled eggs should look like and how the toast bread should be served like. It gelled really well and I believe this is one of the good reasons on why there are so many people flocking in to this place despite knowing the busy-ness of this kopitiam.
RM 1.80 for a cup of coffee (small)
One thing that I would really like to applaud is their coffee. Incredibly rich in taste, smooth in texture and aromatic in smell. I can never go enough with this cup of coffee in fact.
The popular nasi lemak outside Chong Kok Kopitiam where people are willing to queue up just to have one.
Those who prefer a heavy breakfast can go with other options that are available in Chong Kok Kopitiam such as nasi lemak with various toppings like sotong and chicken, different kind(s) of noodles from siam mihun, mee goreng and up to char kuey teow. For those who wants to have a smaller pack of nasi lemak, there are two different vendors who supply it to Chong Kok Kopitiam and each of it has its own distinctive taste. Go and try it!

After finishing my breakfast, it was the time to journey the way to office. Certainly, I didn’t leave the place with empty-handed but I got myself a packet of nasi lemak with sotong, sold by this lady where her stall is located in front of Chong Kok Kopitiam. Believe it or not, people are willing to queue to buy the nasi lemak. Besides that, I got myself 2 pieces of my favorite kuih in Chong Kok Kopitiam.
RM 4.30 for a packet of nasi lemak with sotong
RM 0.80 for each piece

Lastly, try and have a simple yet authentic breakfast at Chong Kok Kopitiam whenever you are available. After all, the shop opens at 630am.

Chapter 87 - Dim Sum at Elite Seafood Restaurant, Petaling Jaya

Dim sum craving kicked in last weekend so, I tagged my family to a dim sum place at Petaling Jaya. I ate there once and I really like it - ambiance is nice, food is fresh and best of all, we dine in at the air-cond place.

Headed there at about 1145am and we spent literally a few hours, dining and chatting with one another. In fact, it is a good place for talking and communicating since the place is quiet as compared to those Chinese hawker stalls.

Upon arrival, we were ushered to a round table that comfortably sits 4 of us. A joyful dim sum moment with the family till my younger sister and brothers started to envy on our breakfast date. Hahaha.

Anyway, we had a number of dim sum such as chee cheong fun, century egg + lean meat porridge, xiao long bao and.........

We had yam puff and pan-fried radish cake too. In total, the bill was about RM 15+.++ since they are running on a 50% discount promotion on Mondays to Saturdays. For Sundays and public holiday, 30% discount is given.

A day after that, I went to Matta Fair with le brothers. And guess who I met? Jeng Jeng Jeng.... Check out my Facebook / Instagram post.

Chapter 82 - Bath, London, United Kingdom (Day 2)

Holla! In Day 2, we went to another part of London that is Bath. Known as one of the world heritage sites, I personally look forward to it. Probably, that was due to the drama exposure by "Triumph in the Skies 2" where Captain Cool, Captain Tong and Holiday had wonderful moments in Bath

So, here's my journal in Day 2, London.
Enjoy reading :)
Woke up at 6am in London! Once I freshened up, I headed to the hotel's lobby. Woah-la! It was quiet yet cold along the street of London. So peace and calm...That's life...
 Breakfast in the hotel
It took us about 2 hours and 45 minutes to reach Bath. By that time we reached, it was already lunch time hence, we stopped by at Green Park Brasserie.
Selfie in front of the restaurant.
For lunch, we had mushroom soup, roast chicken and caramelized oranges - the oranges were really sweet but I didn't manage to take a shot of it - couldn't resist my temptation though
Buildings in Bath - it was brilliantly built and structured.
Oh ya, the buildings are not made by bricks but are made by limestone
As we strolled along the street, we stopped for a few seconds to take a wefie shot.
Temperature on that day was quite cold too - if I remember correctly, it was at 6 to 7 degree Celcius
Our first official stop in Bath was at Royal Crescent! As we came out from the coach, we were welcomed by a sudden gust of cold wind.
Greetings from Royal Crescent, Bath, United Kingdom
Next, we went to The Circus.
It is an example of Georgian architecture where the "circus" means a ring, oval or a circle.
A 2-seconds stop for a photo as we were walking to Roman Baths
Roman Baths which are built around thermal spring.
You can spend more time here to learn the lifestyle of Roman
Shots inside Roman Baths
After Roman Baths, we went to the magnificent Bath Abbey, an Anglican parish church and a former Benedictine monastery
Check out the architectural of Bath Abbey
By that time we completed our tour at Bath Abbey, it was already 430pm.
London gets dark at about 5pm so that means we had to leave to the city by then.
See the amazing view of Bath, London
Traffic was really bad and we reached to the city at 830pm.
We finished all the food within minutes - it was either due to the nice food or we were just too hungry.

Lady luck was not with us on that day. As the coach operator cannot afford to be on the road for more than 12 hours, he left us behind. That said, we boarded the London tube back to the hotel and thankfully, it was super convenient. Initially, we thought of going to somewhere else but we were quite tired by the time we reached hotel hence, we called it off a day after refreshing ourselves.

After all, Day 3 would be another busy yet exciting day.

Chapter 63 – Top 14 MUST-TRY food in Sabah!

Glad to end my 2014 with a fabulous trip to Sabah for 5 days and 4 nights followed by a Sarawak trip for 3 days and 2 nights. While I hope that I could just live in that stress-free, relax life, I know that it is just be a dream only unless I am on the verge of retirement.

Sabah trip was indeed an awesome one. I flushed my stomach with plenty of food; when I meant plenty, it means a lot! I weighed myself on a daily basis when I was in Sabah and to my surprise, I gained 0.2kg everyday – yes, you see it right! Haha! Nevertheless, I still did not stop eatingJ.

Anyway, here are my recommendations for 14 must-try food when you are in Sabah.

1.    Beaufort Noodle @ Restaurant Man Tai
RM 7.00 each
In Sabah, each area will have the respective well-known noodles such as Tamparuli Noodle, Beaufort Noodle, Tuaran Noodle, Tenom noodle and many more. Thus, it is a must to try them all – the noodles are usually home-made as well as the broth itself.

Address: Restaurant Man Tai (Beaufort) – a corner shop located inside the housing area of Taman Dah Yeh.

2.    Buah Talap @ Foh Sang Morning Market
RM 6.00 each (In Gaya Street, it is sold at RM 10.00 each)
The fruit is awesome but unfortunately, I couldn’t bring it back to Kuala Lumpur. To me, it is like the mini version of Cempedak – slimy yet sweet!

Address: Luyang, 88300 Kota Kinabalu

3.    Yau Char Kuay + Kaya @ Foh Sang Morning Market
RM 1.40 each
This is more of a Sabah thing. In Peninsula, I hardly come across people eating Yau Char Kuay with Kaya. In Kuala Lumpur, people usually eat it as the way it is or have it with Kopi O. Nevertheless, Yau Char Kuay with Kaya tastes good too! Worth trying.

Address: Luyang, 88300 Kota Kinabalu

4.    Red Bean Glutinuous Kuih @ Foh Sang Morning Market
RM 1.00 each
I can’t believe that I will fall in love with this kuih! It’s really, really nice – chewy and has a fair hint of sweetness due to the red bean.

Address: Luyang, 88300 Kota Kinabalu

5.    Ham Xin Piang @ Lido Square Market
RM 1.00 each
Enveloped with five spices powder, the kuih comes out in crisp to perfection. Bear in mind that quality differs according to the places. I bought one in Foh Sang Morning Market but unfortunately, it was rather soft and it looked un-fresh.

Address: Lido Square Market

6.    BBQ Chicken Wings with Honey @ Damai
RM 1.80 each
I had my first chicken wings on the second day upon my arrival at Sabah – though the size is rather small, the chicken wings taste really good, enveloping with honey. When I returned on the forth night to get these before I left to KL, I found the chicken wings were quite sweet. That said, the quality can sometime differs though – I wish they could maintain their quality at least because I tasted the “very good” chicken wing before at their stall once.

There are about 7 stalls all around Kota Kinabalu food courts nonetheless, my vote always go to Damai food court. Otherwise, you can visit Lido food court, Taman Dah Yeh, Bundusan-Jin Shi Lou restaurant and etc.

7.    Stir Fried Dumplings @ Hilltop
RM 0.70 each
Always my favourite! J The famous homemade dumplings in Hilltop that allures the locals and tourists alike to make a visit whenever time allows; I have been to this place during the weekdays and weekends and I must say the place is always packed with people – that shows how good the food is!

Address: Kedai Kopi New Mui Vui, Lot 2, Ground Floor, Kolam Plaza

8.    Steamed Dumplings @ Hilltop
RM 0.70 each
If you do not fancy stir-fry dumplings, you can opt for steamed dumplings then. It was rather dry when we packed it home hence, we put a little oil, giving a “wet” look that easily satisfy our appetite.

Address: Kedai Kopi New Mui Vui, Lot 2, Ground Floor, Kolam Plaza

9.    Egg tarts @ Dotts Damai
RM 1.50 each
Crispy and thick in fillings; soft and not too sweet – Initially, I bought 2 egg tarts only. After satisfying my tummy with one, I came down from the car and bought half a dozen.

Address: Dott’s Egg Tarts, Lorong Damai Point, Damai Plazza, 88300 Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

10.  Fruit ABC @ Bukit Padang
RM 5.00 for a bowl
At times when the stomach has been contaminated, it is good and refreshing to keep stomach “awake” with something healthy like fruits!

Address: Bukit Padang’s parking lot

11.  Kon Lou Mee @ Kah Heang, Likas
RM 15.00 for Shen Rou Mian and Zhu Jing Yuan

In one of the days, bestie and I sneaked out to have Kon Lou Mee at Kah Heang, Likas despite that we just had a hearty meal. Compared to other places, the dry noodles served in Kah Heang are covered in thick, black sauce. Yet, the soup itself is flavourful with generous portion of pork from various parts such as lean meat, intestine and etc. By the way, it was a long wait for our food to arrive.

12.  Sarawak Laksa @ Lido
RM 7.00 each
Headed to this place on the first day but it was closed. So, we purposely woke up early to make sure that we had this Sarawak Laksa. Thank God, my efforts did not come to a waste because my taste buds were well-entertained with the creamy Laksa broth.

Address: Very close to Lido Market – the stall is located at the corner shop, sharing the area with a Chicken Rice stall.

13.  Pork soup @ Kah Heong Zhu Chap
RM 11.20 (for the above dish with a cup of Barley drink)
The day before I bid farewell to Sabah, I ensured that I had another good bowl of pork soup – this time, I had it at Kah Heong Zhu Chap (somewhere near Inanam). A nutritious bowl of soup that kick-start my day before I explore Mari-Mari Cultural Village which I will share it in my next post.

14.  Butter bread @ Inanam
RM 1 – 2.00 per bun
I went to the shop itself and requested for Custard bread as many website claimed that. However, no Custard bread was sold in that shop; the boss also acknowledged that their BUTTER bread is the signature bread and that was the one the websites are referring to instead of Custard bread – wrong facts given pulak by the websites. Haha!

Address: Kedai Kopi Jeong Hin, Lot 8, Ground Floor, Block E, Lorong Inanam, Inanam New Township Phase 2, Kota Kinabalu.

Now, I guess you know how I gained so much of kilos despite that it was just a few days only...All in all, Kota Kinabalu is not only a tourist attraction but it is also a food paradise which certainly excites the food lovers. A MUST to visit place whenever time allows and it is best to stay in there for at least 4 days 3 nights; otherwise, you wouldn’t be able to try the good food J.

Happy Sunday peeps!
