Chapter 96 - Authentic and simple dinner at Gerai, The Food Loft, Setia Alam

The last time I dined in this place was when I worked at a PR agency in Bandar Utama. That was like 2 years back. Recently, I tagged my parents to sample the dishes at this place, Gerai after a sudden thought of having butter chicken. The first thing that comes to my parents' mind when "Gerai" is mentioned is "Are you bringing us to a hawker stall?" That was what my parents thought initially. Haha!

The menu that greeted us on that day. There is not much change as compared to my last visit to Gerai actually. Everything remains the same.

The place was quite quiet initially but soon, it was flocked with families and couples where they too opted to fill their tummy with the Asian cuisine. Though there were some bad reviews of them which were shared via Facebook, it somehow did not affect me that much. All I want to do is just to give it a try and see whether the reviews given were valid or not. Hence, I took the lead and ordered their signature dishes once we reached the shop itself.

And things turned out to be.......we enjoyed our dinner there!

Dad ordered Cucumber Lychee Elixir Ice (RM 5.90) whereas I ordered Serai Cincau (RM 3.90)
Tastes different yet it manages to tease our appetite further. Refreshing and awesome!
Gerai Laksa at RM 8.90
Dad ordered his all-time favorite dish, Laksa. Comes with slices of fish cakes, eggs, taufu pok, cockles and slices of chicken, the Laksa gives a different taste in total. Unlike our usual Laksa where it uses yellow mee, Gerai Laksa uses another type of noodle (whitish, tangy noodle). Meanwhile, the curry is rich in taste yet it is not spicy. Those who prefers to have an extra kick in their Laksa can opt for their sambal.
Cendol at RM 4.90
Mum wanted something chilling hence, she ordered a bowl of cendol. Rich in taste especially a 100% Gula Melaka is used, the bowl of cendol certainly whets one's appetite. Mum enjoyed it much.
XL Hainanese Chicken Rice at RM 10.90
On the other hand, I opted for their chicken rice! It comes with a reasonable portion of bean sprouts; the bean sprouts are "fat" in its way, bringing the crunchy-ness and juiciness when one bites it in the mouth. As for the chicken, the meat is soft which gives a smooth texture. Putting both the garlic sauce as well as the homemade chilli, the chicken rice is perfectly complete!

Gerai Butter Rice at RM 9.90
Another highlight on that day is Gerai Butter Rice. The gravy is actually the key to project the richness of this dish. Tastes perfectly good when it is put on top of the fried chicken and a spoon of fried groundnuts simply complete the dish.

All in all, everyone enjoyed the dishes served in Gerai. The quality remains and I will certainly make my visit there again.

Verdict: For those who do not know what to order during your first visit there, I strongly reckon Gerai Butter Rice if you feel like having rice on that day or Gerai Laksa if you want to have something soupy. Otherwise, you can try out their Gerai Dry Pan Mee which also shares the same popularity like others.

Happy trying!
