Ipoh has other offerings too besides food! In my recent visit to Ipoh, my tummy was not only filled with delicious food like dim sum, tau fu fah, and a glass of white coffee but I also take the opportunity to visit Ho Yan Hor Museum which is just a walking distance to Concubine Lane.
Mural wall painted by Ernest
Once we parked our car, we were greeted by Ernest wall mural which is on the side of the building. Initially, we were brought to disappointment as the door was closed, stating that it is full with visitors and we had to wait for 20 minutes for the next session. However, lady luck came to us at the right time as the person behind the closed door allowed us to go in, knowing that there are only 5 people who were waiting patiently outside of the building.
Many may not aware that this building marks the first step of the evolution of Ho Yan Hor which can now be found in any hypermarkets as well as pharmacies. In fact, this building was where the founder lived and made his herbal tea while selling it outside his house in 1941.
Stepping into the history of Ho Yan Hor, our eyes were feasted with how it began to how it is marketed today. There are 2 floors in the museum and you can take ample pictures in the museum. Be ready to have an eye-opening journey as well as seeing some of the antique items too!

Original advertising of Ho Yan Hor
The advertisement in olden days are simpler yet, it garners lots of attention. Perhaps, we should reflect the way of our advertisement too - does it send out the right message?
