Grateful that I
found this hidden gem through my friend's recommendation. Apparently,
this place serves very good char siew where it “melts” when you put it in your
mouth. Of course, you need to choose the part that contains some fatty layers
and not lean meat only.
I tried this
place twice and slowly, I am in love with this restaurant.
So, on this
special day, I brought my family to dine in during lunch hour. All the way from
Klang, we braved through the traffic and grabbed a good spot before the crowd
flocked in. Since I tried this place before, I was the main lead where I
ordered all their signature dishes. Without me knowing, I ordered 10 dishes including 3 bowls of soups to
fill up the poor 6 tummy only.
We had a bowl
of rice each and plus the 10 dishes, we could hardly swallow any further.
However, we somewhat managed to wipe out about 80% of the dishes.
So, let me
start introducing the signature food in Char Siew Yoong which is located at
Jalan Pudu Ulu.
1. Char Siew
A must-to order
at this place! If you want to try their Char Siew, it is best to go after 1030am. If you choose to have it after lunch, I suggest you to give a call to
check whether the char siew is still available or not. There was once where I traveled all
the way from KLIA2 to Cheras and to my biggest disappointment, they were all sold
out! So, best to call beforehand to avoid disappointment.
2. Roast Pork
I find that
their roast pork is juicy, aromatic and tastefully done too. Crispy at the
outer and juicy at the inner. It is even good to have it as it is. The layers
of fat just disintegrated in our mouths. I wish I did "tapao" on that day but
unfortunately, I did not as we were heading to another place after that.
3. Steamed
Tilapia in Assam Sauce
Voila! I love
this dish the best among all. For those who enjoy the sour yet spicy savory, you
will find yourself loving this. The fish is fresh too.
4. Braised Pig
Trotter
We ordered a
plate of braised pork. Safe to say, this plate of pork is perfectly done.
Heavy in taste, soft in meat texture. Young and old will certainly love this
dish as it allows you to reminisce the olden days when the subtle aroma like
Chinese herbs, garlic and clove burst in your mouth. Am I getting a bit
dramatic here? Haha! I am not because this dish is absolutely good.
Even, my dad gave me a thumbs up for introducing this dish.
5. Yam with
Pork Belly
Again, we have
pork J Sounds like
a porky-licious feast but what to do - the chef makes such good dishes. I
am not a person who fancy yam but this dish truly opens up my mind. Woah-la!
6. Greenies
Enough of pork
and meat, we too had a plate of greenies to balance out our lunch diet on that
day.
7. Chicken Feet
Oh ya, it’s not
about pork but it is also about chicken feet! I don’t fancy this hence, I did not try
it. But my parents and my older brother were enjoying, having the chicken feet.
They love the gravy apparently. No comment on this.
8. Tan Tong
(Double-boiled soup)
Watercress Soup
Old Cucumber Soup
Black Nuts Soup
Double-boiled
soup is also one of their signature servings there. On the day where we had lunch, there
were three types of soups and off, I went and ordered all three namely old
cucumber soup, watercress soup and black nuts soup. I hope I get the name right - All these 3 soups are really delicious, giving the soothing feeling to our
tummy. The long hours of double-boiling soups were evidently awesome as they
are full of flavor. My mum loves the black nuts soup whereas my sister prefers
the watercress soup. As for me, I opt for old cucumber soup and black nuts
soup.
Perhaps, you should try it first and let me know your preferred soup?
All in all,
guess what! – The total bill came up to RM 149 only for 6 people with 10 dishes. So, what are you waiting for? J
