Chapter 60 – Bat Kut Teh and Steamed Fish at Shang Kee Restaurant, Balakong

All the way from Klang to Balakong, my dad suggested to have lunch at one of the Chinese shops which my dad always applauded for their great steamed fish. We were one of the first few customers there and off, my dad went ahead to order dishes for three pax.

Food was brought to our table within 10 minutes – the portion for a bowl of rice was quite huge actually where none of us need to order for another extra bowl. First dish that came to our table was Bat Kut Teh – while I know many people would be wondering why on earth do I need to travel all the way to Belakong and have this Bat Kut Teh since Klang is already famous with that; well, the answer is really simple – since my dad said that one of the favourite dishes in this shop is Bat Kut Teh, of course, we must give a try lo..

The broth is rather diluted but it is rich in flavour; to be precise, it is contented with herbs and spices where I personally don’t recommend to those who have high blood pressure actually. The serving is slightly lesser compared to the ones in Klang because in the claypot, it contains pork, mushroom and a very limited amount of “tau-ki”. Others such as greenies and tau-pok are not found in the serving.

Second dish that was served on that day was a plate of greenies. This is weird but I must say that this plate of greenies is really delicious though it looks simple. Taste wise is just perfect and the texture of the vegetable gives the crunchy-ness.

Last but not least and also the highlight of the day is the steamed fish – looks pretty easy to cook this dish but it is not! Topped with chopped ginger and cilantro leaves and drizzled with the soy sauce, this is one of the heavenly dishes that one can opt for – simple, authentic and awesome!!

The total bill came up to RM 57.60; nice! Good food does not necessary mean that you need to hurt your pocket so, I highly recommend this place.

Shang Kee Restaurant is located at No.45, Jalan Budiman 2/3, Taman Putra Budiman, 43200 Belakong, Selangor. Tel: 016 – 243 3248.
